ROCHESTER -- The funeral for Roald Winton "Fin" Finanger will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Charles E. Ortloff officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery East.
Mr. Finanger, 88, of Rochester, died Tuesday (Sept. 12, 2006) at Saint Marys Hospital.
Born Oct. 31, 1917, in Spring Grove, he grew up in La Crosse, Wis., and graduated from Logan High School in 1934. He married Julia O. Severson on Nov. 30, 1939. They moved to Rochester in 1953. An Army veteran, he served during World War II in Puerto Rico and Trinidad. He worked as an agent and manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for 37 years. He was a charter member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where he served as president of the congregation, among other positions. When he retired, he remained involved in the Rochester Host Lions Club, SCORE and Transportation Services for the Blind. He also served as a board member of various organizations, including Samaritan Bethany Home.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, R. James (Shirley) of West Salem, Ore., and Jonathan (Mary) of Roseville, Minn.; and a daughter, Krismar (Frank) Cmiel of Rochester. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Erika (Seth) Hederrick, David Finanger, Paul (Cheryl) Cmiel, Trevor Cmiel and Nicholas Finanger; two great-grandchildren, Winton Hederrick and Erik Cmiel; and a sister-in-law, Jean Finanger. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ranfranz &; Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester, and from noon until the time of the service Friday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
