ROCHESTER \emdash The funeral for Julia O. Finanger will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Steven Ronningen officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery East.
Mrs. Finanger, 90, of Rochester, died Saturday (March 24, 2007) at Charter House Hospice.
Julia Oline Severson was born March 10, 1917, in Peterson, and graduated from Peterson High School in 1935. She married Roald W. Finanger on Nov. 30, 1939. They moved to Rochester in 1953 and were charter members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, where they served in many roles. She attended St. Olaf College and the Fairview School of Nursing, enrolled at the Wisconsin Business School in La Crosse in 1937 and graduated two years later.
She worked at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse in 1939, then left to rear her family. In 1960 she joined Mayo Clinic as a desk attendant in x-ray until 1963, when she became an x-ray librarian in the Carman Library at Mayo. She retired in 1981. In retirement she volunteered at Methodist Hospital and Mayo Clinic.
Survivors include two sons, R. James (Shirley) of West Salem, Ore., and Jon (Mary) of Roseville, Minn.; and a daughter, Krismar (Frank) Cmiel of Rochester. Other survivors include five grandchildren, Erika (Seth) Hedderick of Baltimore, David Finanger of Seattle, Paul (Cheryl) Cmiel of Rochester, Trevor Cmiel of Minneapolis and Nick Finanger; and two great-grandsons, Winton Hedderick and Erik Cmiel. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, James.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home in Rochester, and an hour before the service Friday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Mayo Clinic cancer research, or a charity of the donor's choice.
