Bob was born on June 8, 1928, in La Crosse to Ethel Benson of Houston, Minn. He was raised by his beloved grandparents, Lewis and Martha Benson of Houston. On Sept. 14, 1954, he was united in marriage to Violet Schaeffer.

Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1954 and was stationed in Germany and Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and began working at Trane Co. He served as the Campbell Town Chairman from 1971 to 1975. He was instrumental in the development of the current Campbell Town Hall, Days Inn and Sky Harbour Mall.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, watching boxing and mixed martial arts and taking trips with his family. He was a big time Green Bay Packers fan and got to see the Pack win one more Super Bowl before God called him home. He was a very loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Ginger (Tom) Tilson, Tammy (Stu) Hyttinen and Lynn (Steve) Hockenbery, all of La Crosse; one son, John (Barb) Benson of Salado, Texas; a brother, Roger (Sally Mae) James of Trempealeau; a sister, Mary (Ronald) Gunderson of Trempealeau; eight grandsons, Tom Tilson, Jeff Tilson, Josh Hyttinen, Dan Hyttinen, Jared Benson, Jimmy Benson, Justin Hockenbery and Brandon Hockenbery; one granddaughter, Chalsee Hockenbery; nine greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
