• Obituary: Bittner Funeral Chapel, 2009. Lila Margaret Scott Walker died on February 13, 2009, while living with her granddaughter, Kara (John) Hoblick and family in DeLeon Springs, Florida. She was born November 6, 1913, in Storla, South Dakota, to Lewis Emanuel and Clara Lillian Emerson Scott. Lila graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. She married Kenneth Ellsworth Walker in 1933. They lived in the Mt. Vernon, South Dakota area. Lila was active in her children's activities and schools. She was a hard working woman and helped in the family business. Lila also worked at Midwest Beach stationary store in Sioux Falls.

Later Lila worked for John Hancock Insurance and was active in the Toastmistress public speaking organization while living in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Rockford, Illinois. Lila and Kenneth moved to the DeLand, Florida area in 1977. Lila enjoyed gardening, bird study, baking, Bible study groups, and being with family. She was always interested in current events, had a passion for literature, and was a lifelong learner. She also encouraged learning in others. Lila always had a positive attitude and one of her favorite sayings was, "Find a way or make one."

Lila is survived by her brother, Wallace (Gladys) Scott of Mitchell, South Dakota, son, Dennis (Shannon) Walker of Tolland, Connecticut. Lila enjoyed being "Nana" to her 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was a beloved aunt and good friend to many others. Predeceased by her husband, sister, Marian Taplin, brother, Milton Scott, son, Keith Walker, and daughter-in-law, Catherine "Kit" Walker.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, February 18 at 10:00 am at the Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand, Florida. Another service and burial will be at a later date in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota.
