Lt. Col. Evan Yeager "Rog" Rogers, U.S.A.F. (Ret)
passed away in Tucson June 1, 2012 at age 94. He was born in Gibson City, IL and attended schools in Manhattan and Joliet, IL. In 1940 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. In 1941 he transferred to the Army Air Corps. He completed bombardier training in 1943. In February 1944, following his marriage to the former Margaret Vasecka, he was assigned to the 34th Bomb Group, Mendlesham Field in England where he flew 35 missions in B-24's and B-17s over Europe. After the end of WWII he was stationed at various bases in the U.S., until November 1950 when he was assigned to the 90th Bomb Group and flew 28 missions in B-29s over Korea. In 1952 he was assigned to a B-47 crew with the 303rd Bomb Wing at Davis-Monthan AFB. 1957 brought a transfer to Hawaii as SEATO advisor where he flew observer missions with both the Republic of China Air Force and Royal Laos Air Force. In 1966, after five years at Dobbins AFB, GA., he was transferred to the Spanish Air Ministry in Madrid, Spain as Chief of Military Lend-Lease program. In July 1970 he was sent to Tan Son Nhut Airfied, Vietnam, where he flew nine recon/supply missions. He finished his career in 1974 at Dyess AFB, TX. He and Margo then retired to Tucson where he spent his final years golfing, volunteering at the VA, traveling and enjoying good times with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Azalia Rogers and his wife, Margo. Survivors are son, Ray (Carole) of Tucson; granddaughter, Jackie (Chris) of UT; grandson, Matt (Vicky) of FL; step-grandson, Kelly (Shannon), their children, Lee and Cora of CO; sisters-in-law, Helen of Phoenix and Jean of PA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff of Friendship Villa and Casa de la Luz Hospice for their extraordinary loving care of Rog and of all of us during his final months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Love Thy Neighbor Ministries, P.O. Box 68830, Tucson, AZ 85737 or the charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave., Tucson.
