Donald F. Burr died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, at Hillview Healthcare Center in La Crosse. Don passed away peacefully on his 81st birthday, surrounded by his family.

Don was born in La Crosse on Oct. 31, 1925, to John Burr and Nellie (Carey) Burr. He married Mary Hartley on July 4, 1945, at St. James Catholic Church in La Crosse.

Don and Mary raised their family of five children. They later divorced, and he remarried.

Learning the business from his father, Don was a master barber and operated Burr's Barber Shop on the North Side of La Crosse for 32 years. He later became a real estate broker and appraiser in La Crosse until he retired. He was a graduate of Logan High School class of 1943 and a WWII veteran. Dad had a lifelong love of jazz music and was an accomplished guitarist.

Don is survived by his five children, Marylyn (Dan) Cibrario of West Bend, Wis., Brian (Kathleen) Burr of Onalaska, Wis., Wayne (Carlan) Burr of Onalaska, Donnalee (Todd) Papenfuss of Nodine, Minn., and Kerry (David) Johnson of Onalaska; eight grandchildren, Bradley Cibrario, Danielle Burr, Nicole and Jamie Burr, Matthew and Samantha Papenfuss, and Benjamin and Lucas Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Zachary Cibrario. Don is further survived by his former wife, Mary Hartley; his sister, Barbara Gollnick; his former wife, Carolyn Burr; her three children, Rachel Krolow, Gwendolyn Salzwedel and Phillip Krolow; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Genevieve Burr; and two brothers-in-law, Arnold Gollnick and Thomas Hartley.

The family is grateful to his loving caregivers at Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse for his long-term care.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Dickinson Family Funeral Home on Main Street in Onalaska. A private family burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.
