• Obituary, 1926, Ford County, Illinois, USA. Isabell Knudson Ryerson was born January 13, 1834, near Stavanger, Norway, and died at her home near Gibson city on October 12, 1926, at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 29 days.

Mrs. Ryerson grew to womanhood in her native country, Norway, where at the age of 14 years she joined the Lutheran church of which she had been a faithful worker until the end came.

At the age of twenty-four she left Norway, going to LaSalle county, Ill., where she landed, after five weeks of ocean voyage and about a two weeks overland trip. The ocean voyage was made in a sailing vessel with many privations and hardships.

Two years after her arrival in America she was married to Christian G. Ryerson, on October 15, 1861, at Ottawa, Ill. After her marriage she resided on a farm with her husband in LaSalle county for six years; and in the fall of 1867, they came to Ford county and settled on a farm, where she died, having lived there continually ever since.

On this farm with her husband she reared her family and helped him transform the prairie into a well developed farm. Ten children were born to this union, of which four proceeded her in death, two in infancy and two daughters since that time, Mrs David Cooper, and Mrs M.L. Yeager. The husband, Christian Ryerson, died April 17, 1914.

Mrs. Ryerson is survived and mourned by five daughters--Mrs. Anna Peterson and Mrs. James Langley of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs George Dirks, Miss Christine Ryerson and Miss Sarah Ryerson of Gibson City; and one son, Richard Ryerson, of Urbana; also nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was the only surviving daughter of her immediate family, all of her sisters and brothers having passed on several years ago.

The deceased was a devoted mother and a faithful friend to those who knew her, always ready to assist in every way for the betterment of her community, and with her passing, the community has lost a faithful servant and friend.

About three years ago the deceased lost her sight and since that time became bedfast. However, she stood her affliction with great patience, never losing faith with her Saviour and Lord.

Funeral services were held from the home at one-thirty Thursday afternoon, the services being in charge of Rev. Francis E. Smith, pastor of the Methodist church of Gibson City. Burial was in the Gibson City cemetery.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs Elizabeth Ryerson, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Ryerson, Mr. and Mrs Adolph Ryerson, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Apland, all of Pontiac; M.L.Yeager, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rogers, Mr. and Mrs Henry Thiel of Manhattan; an Mrs Julia Ryerson of Chicago.

• Cemetery: Drummer Township Cemetery, Gibson City, 1926, Ford County, Illinois, USA.
