Alta Dahl was born March 12, 1913, in Preble Township, Fillmore County. She attended the Tawney School and graduated from Mabel High School. She married Nansen Spande on Sept. 26, 1934, in Decorah, Iowa; he died Feb. 11, 1998. Mrs. Spande was a member of Mabel First Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and was active in Circle. She also sang for weddings and funerals, sometimes in Norwegian, which she did not speak. She was also a "Gray Lady" at the Mabel Nursing Home for many years.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Alice) of Clarkston, Mich., and Dean of Mabel; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Eiken of Harmony and Delone Carpenter of Bloomington, Minn.; and a brother, Ronald (Edna) Dahl of Mohall, N.D. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister.
Private family services will be held in the spring.
