Born in Ponemah, Minnesota, the youngest of a large family. Both her parents died when she was 12 years old and she was sent to boarding schools in Pipestone, Wahpaton and Flandrue, SD. Later, she married Richard Manuel and lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN and raised two children, while she worked outside the home. Her first job was at Nortronics, she made parts for computers and worked at several jobs as a machinist and finally retired from Gross-Given Manufacturing in 1999. Most of all, she loved to dance as a traditional dancer at powwows and was passionate to be among her people.
She enjoyed sewing and beading and made all her own regalia and Ojibwe style moccasins. In 2013, she was elected by the elders and crowned the first Queen of the Red Lake Nation and in the fall of 2014 she accepted the honor to be the Grandmother of the Year at the Thanksgiving powwow in Mpls.
Ramona was vibrant, caring and giving to her family and friends. She loved and adored her three grandchildren Alexandra, Julianna and Christopher (Danielson).
She will be missed by her children David (Laura) and Diana Manuel, her grandchildren and many relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her husband Richard Manuel, her parents, George and Blanche Sayers and all her siblings.
Wake was Tuesday, September 30, 2014 Boy's and Girl's Club, Ponemah, Minnesota.
Interment was at the David Manuel Cemetery, Ponemah, Minnesota
