In March, 1854, John Olson Overland and his three sons, Ole, Steiner, and Knud, and a brother-in-law [son-in-law?], Halver Erickson, Harold Olson, and Hans Franson, came to this township from Winneshiek county, Iowa, selected claims and provided for their families by putting up a residence 14x18 feet, in accordance with the prevailing local fashion, then went for their families, and got back on the 18th of May.

Johannes married Thone Olsdatter KIILEN on 5 Aug 1823 in Kviteseid, Telemark, Norway. (Thone Olsdatter KIILEN was born about 1802 in Norway and died on 13 Sep 1877 in Minnesota, USA ².)
