• Obituary, 2007. AUSTIN -- Merill Gregor, 80, of Austin, Minn., died Saturday, March 17, 2007, after a brief illness.
Merill was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Mapleton, Minn., to Lee and Helen (Marske) Gregor. Merill served in the Navy during WWII. After the Navy, Merill attended school in Denver, Colo. and completed training as an x-ray technician. He returned to Minnesota and continued to have a successful career in the health care field. He advanced his career to hospital administration and served as a hospital administrator in Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Britt, Iowa.
Merill enjoyed a variety of hobbies including shopping at flea markets, rock hunting and metal detecting. He loved displaying crafts and attending craft shows with his wife, Rose. He was an avid collector of different types of pottery and memorabilia.
Merill is survived by sons, David (Sherry) Gregor, Bruce (Dolly) Gregor; stepdaughters, Arlene (Bruce) Wicken, Barbara (Darvin) Mattila; son-in-law, Gene Ratzel; three sisters, Evelyn Dubek, Margetta Byers and Betty Lou (Barney) Mullenbach; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose (Harms); first wife, Dorothy (Paulson); daughter, Sharon Ratzel; and sons, Richard and Robert.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ganga Reddy and the staff at Austin Medical Center for their loving care of Merill in his final week, and to offer a special thank you to Penny for the time and support she gave family while making the decision for hospice. We would also like to thank the staff at Kenwood Assisted Living for the wonderful home they provided for Merill, and to Michelle Knode for her compassion and visits to Merill while he was in the hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Mayer Funeral Home, 600 Second Street N.W., Austin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Kenwood Assisted Living, St. Mark's Lutheran Home, 400 15th Avenue SW, Austin, Minn., 55912.
