She was born on July 21, 1918 in Marengo, the daughter of Herman G. and Helen (Puchert) Brandstetter.

On April 14, 1947 she was united in marriage to Alvin B. Hatling in Sioux Falls, S.D. Helen lived in Des Moines, Pacific Grove, Calif. and Mission Viejo.

Helen is survived by her two daughters, Vicky Collins of Pacific Grove and Nancy Thiel of Mission Viejo and two sisters, Dorothy Baumgartner and Betty Jean Brinca.
