Hilda A. Eiken, 94, of Peterson, Minn., died on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford, Minn.
Hilda was born July 1, 1915, in rural Peterson to Evan and Helen (Fossum) Ferden.
She was raised on a farm near Peterson. Hilda attended Peterson High School. She cared for her father for several years after high school.
On Aug. 8, 1936, she married Maynard Eiken in Peterson. Hilda and Maynard farmed in the Bratsburg, Minn., area for 68 years. Maynard died in 2004.
Hilda called Good Shepherd her home for the past six years. She considered the staff and residents of Good Shepherd her friends.
Hilda enjoyed playing cards, gardening, flowers, cooking and canning. She loved her grandchildren visiting her at the farm.
Hilda is survived by her daughter, Kaye (Allan Skalet) Eiken of Peterson; two grandchildren, Beth (Michael) Adams and Brett Eiken; three step-grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah and Phillip Nitecki; and three great-grandchildren, Evan, Avery, Halie and Brode.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Everett; four brothers, Clifford, Ernest, James and Floyd Ferden; and two sisters, Clara Semmen and Mabel Torgerson.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, with the Rev. Wade Davick officiating.
Burial will be in Highland Prairie Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Rushford is assisting the family with arrangements.
Hilda's family prefers memorials to be directed to the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church or Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.
