SARATOGA, Calif. - Jon Leonard Kragness, 39, of Saratoga died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in Ghana, Africa. Jon was born Oct. 20, 1964, to Leonard and Karen (Eiken) Kragness in Spring Grove, Minn.

Jon was a 1983 graduate of Spring Grove Public High School and a 1987 graduate of Winona State University. He earned an MBA from San Diego State University in 1989. Jon was employed by Hewlett-Packard in California as a marketing analyst for five years. Jon also worked at Cisco Systems as a marketing manager for six years. Jon had an entrepreneurial spirit and developed several marketing consulting firms. His latest business enterprise was Precious Metals International.

Jon traveled extensively for business and pleasure. Jon spent high school and college summers in Alaska operating heavy equipment for the family gold mining operation. Jon married his high school sweetheart, Melissa Wold, in Lake Tahoe, Calif. They were married from May 25, 1991, until 1996. Jon had a passion for health and fitness. He loved to discuss business and gain knowledge from everyone he met with an eye toward new adventures. Jon was very outgoing, optimistic and always excited about his next endeavor.

Jon is survived by his mother, Karen Kragness of Spring Grove; his father, Leonard (Gloria) Kragness of Anchorage, Alaska; siblings, Sara (Tod) Bauer of Wasilla, Alaska, Paul Kragness of Trapper Creek, Alaska, Adam (fianc?e Danielle Konkel) Kragness of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and Spring Grove, and Jana (Chris) VonArx of Caledonia, Minn; eight nieces, Lisa, Kirstin, Megan, Karly, Ashly, Sydny, Maria and Olivia; one nephew, Christopher; one great-nephew, Eli; and his grandmother, Edna Eiken.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Karen Kragness' residence in rural Spring Grove. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with the Rev. Stephanie Frey officiating. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery after the service. Roble Funeral Home, Spring Grove, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Jon will be remembered for his trusting nature, ad-venturous spirit and his love for family, friends and life.
