Ripe in Age, but Still Active and Enjoys Good Health.

Lars Humble, of Norway township, the subject of this brief sketch and whose likeness we reproduce from a special photograph taken for this occasion, was born in Nannestad Prestegjeld, Norway, April 14, 1817. Having passed his 88th birthday and still enjoying good heath, this sturdy son of Norway, still attends to light work on the farm, reads ordinary print without the aid of glasses and his hearing is remarkably good for a person of his years. He spent Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19, the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Holle in this city, and made the Star Republican a brief visit, talking interestingly of his life.

Lars Humble came to America in 1852 and settled first at Koskenong [Koshkonong?] Wis. After a residence there of five years, he came to Highland Prairie and here has lived ever since. His visit to Rushford recently was the only time he has made the trip in ten years.

Mr. Humble is the father of eleven children of whom five are living, L. L. Humble, of Highland Prairie; Karen Engelstad, of Minneapolis; Mrs. John Peterson, of Streator, Ill.; Mrs. Andrew Christianson, of Minneapolis, and John Humble, of Washington state. Mr. Humble's wife died 35 years ago. He was the youngest of a family of five children, having had three brothers and one sister.

The Star-Republican congratulates Mr. Humble on his splendid health and hopes he may yet fill many years and continue to enjoy those blessings which the Creator has seen fit to betstow upon him.
