• Notes. Harry and Mary bought his father's farm in Choice and farmed there for many years. Later they moved to Preston, Minnesota where Harry worked for Fillmore County. Mary taught school in Choice in about 1914-1915 and again in 1921-1923. She was Irish and from Looney Valley in Houston County, Minnesota. [Bruce]

PRESTON, Minn. (Special) -- Harry O. Wicks, 64, Preston, former Production and Marketing Administration chairman of Fillmore County, died at 10 a.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, following a stroke suffered Thursday.

Wicks was born Aug. 18, 1889, at Butte, Mont., and came to Choice, Minn., with his parents when he was 1. He lived in that community until 12 years ago when he moved to Preston. He married the former Mrs. Marry Burr, Houston, Feb 7, 1914. Wicks was a member of the Masonic Lodge here.

Survivors are his wife; tow daughters, Mrs. Harold (Myra) Wendorf, and Mrs. Vernon (Delight) Johnson, Minneapolis, and five grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Morrel, Madison, Wis., and Alfred and Joseph, Minneapolis, and three sisters, Mrs. Olga Johnson, Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. H. F. Ronnenberg, Houston, and Mrs. Conrad Mindrum, Madison, Wis.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Preston Methodist Church, the Rev. Stanley Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Choice Cemetery. Friends may call at the Thauwald Funeral Home after 3 p.m. today until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and at the church from 12 noon until the time of services.

Wicks was named the second member of the Fillmore County PMA Committee in 1939 and became chairman of the committee in 1943. He continued as chairman until the time of his death. The committee now is known as the county ASC committee.


Harry married Mary "Bird" BURR, daughter of Hiram A. BURR and Helen M. CARPENTER, on 7 Feb 1914 in Houston County, Minnesota, USA.1 (Mary "Bird" BURR was born on 24 Feb 1886 in Minnesota, USA and died on 31 Mar 1962 in Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA 2.)
