• Obituary: [from Fillmore County History Center, unknown publication], 1916, Minnesota, USA. Summoned by Death

Early last week Mr. Ole Eiken of this city and Tollef Eiken of the South Fork vicinity received word from St. Paul to come to the bedside of their brother, Andrew, whose sudden failing in health gave cause for alarm. The arrived in time to speak a last farewell, as the soul parted for its eternal home Wednesday. Funeral services were held at the family home in St. Paul Saturday morning and the remains were taken to his form home, Crookston, for interment, the burial taking place Sunday afternoon.

Andrew Eiken was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Torgus Kittleson Eiken who came to South Fore in the spring of 1854. They were among the earliest settlers of that unbroken wilderness and here raised a family of three boys and two girls, of whom Ole and Tollef respectively are the oldest and the departed brother being the third, Mrs. Breiland of Moorhead and Mrs. Anna Olafson of Duluth. Deceased leaves a widow and two children. Mr. Eiken became a resident of Crookston when yet a young man, was elected register of deeds of Pope county which office he held for years and later became postmaster of his home town, serving in that capacity until about eight years ago, when the family moved to St. Paul, where he engaged in the real estate business. Last winter his health began to fail and he sought relief by making a trip to the southwest. He came to Rushford about the first of July and remained here and with relations in Houston county about a month, and during that time seemed to gain in strength. Deceased was born April 27, 1860, on the old homestead in Houston county and where still reside many of his boyhood friends who will feel grieved to learn of his untimely death.
