URBANDALE - Roger Henry Reed, 63, of Urbandale, formerly of Steamboat Rock, died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Urbandale. Funeral services were Monday, May 3, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Urbandale with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Roger was born Aug. 31, 1940, in Hamilton County to Ralph H. and Arlene H. (Thompson) Reed. He graduated from Steamboat Rock High School and attended Wartburg College. On June 15, 1963, Roger was united in marriage to June A. Keiper. He worked for Gibbs/Cook Caterpillar and established Des Moines Construction Parts and Equipment in 1983. Roger was a member and past president of the Independent Dealers Association, a member of the Iowa Ostrich Association, Iowa Land Improvement Association and had served as coach for the West Des Moines Girls' Softball League. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing and attending auto races.
Survivors include his wife, June; two daughters, Carla Chambers and husband Todd of Ankeny and Krista Oehlerich and husband Dwight of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; his parents; three brothers, Kenneth and wife Linda of Ackley, Leslie and wife Renee of Galt, Mo., and Douglas and wife Treva of Spanish Fork, Utah; two sisters, Pamela Berends and husband Edwin of Conrad and Denise Matlage and husband Ed of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the Kavanagh House on 56th, or an education fund for his grandchildren.
