• Biography. Gudmund Monsen, born ca 1795, was from Odalen. Berte Hansdotter Haug was from the husmann farm Haugseiet in Nittedal. She was born ca 1789 and died in 1862. Gudmund and Berte were husmann on the Hellerud farm and Hans worked at the Hakadal iron works. This Hellerud farm is very close to the Hakadal iron works and is not the large Hellerud farm south of Nittedal. In 1865, Gudmund Monsen's place is listed as having two cows and six sheep. He also raised 1/2 tn. of barley, 1 tn. of oats and 2 tn. of potatoes. ( A tn. is a tønne, a barrel volumetric measure used for fish, grain and potatoes and equal to about 4 bushels.) Prior to living on the Hellerud farm, Gudmund was a husmann for ten years on the nearby farm Haug.
