Roger E. Hillerud, 78, of Pottsville, died Tuesday night at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Haldstead, Minn., Dec. 13, 1927, he was a son of the late Emil and Agnes Oien Hillerud. He attended the University of Minnesota until joining the Navy.
While in the Navy, Roger served his country in Japan and Korea. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. After the Navy, he went on to graduate from Philadelphia Pharmaceutical College.
On Aug. 5, 1952, he married the former Mary K. Boyle, who survives. Until retiring, he was the chief pharmacist at Pottsville Hospital.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Pottsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey.
Surviving Roger, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Dennis, New Jersey, and David and his wife, Christine, New York; two daughters, Kristine and her husband, Kevin McMurtrie, Orefield, and Rosemary and her husband, Jaime King, Pottsville; eight grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Tuesday from St. Patrick Church. There will be no calling hours. Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home Inc., Sixth and West Market streets, Pottsville, is handling arrangements.
