Kjemhus, born in Norway in 1838, immigrated to Illinois in 1854, to Fillmore County in 1859, served throughout most of the Civil Ward with the 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery. Coming to Sandnes in 1867, he married Olina G. Stevens the following year.

MN Hv Arty 1st Reg Co B. Born in Beggli, Nummedal, Norway, 22 Dec 1838, a son of parents Stener H. Kjemhus and Kari (born Kjontvedt). Came to America in 1854 and lived in Illinois. In 1859, he went to Fillmore County, Minnesota. In 1860 he went to Norway and returned in '61. Civil War: In 1862 he volunteered and was assigned to the Wisconsin 15th Infantry Company B (WI 15th Inf Co B), serving from 1862 to 1863. Private. Fought at Nashville, Tennessee. He was seriously wounded in the battle of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and was given an honorable discharge due to his wounds. Later he enlisted in the 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery, serving there from 1 Oct 1864 to 26 Jul 1865. He became a Sergeant. Post war: In 1867, he filed for a homestead northwest of Cottonwood in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He married Oline Stevens on 5 Jun 1868. Seven children. After 35 years on their farm, they moved into the town of Cottonwood. Oline died 2 Jan 1915. Knute died 23 Jan 1924 at Lake Park, Minnesota, at the home of his daughter. Buried in Silo cemetery. Kjemhus, K. S. K. S. Kjemhus was born in Norway in 1838 and came to this country in 1854 and lived in Illinois till 1858; in 1859 he came to Fillmore County, Minnesota, and the next year returned to Norway, but came again in 1861. He enlisted in 1862 and was sick until his discharge in 1863; in 1864 he enlisted in the First Minnesota Heavy Artillery and served through the war. In 1867 he came to Sandnes. Married in 1868, Olnia G. Stevens; seven children.
