Third person dies following crashes near Eyota, Dover

A third person has died following a pair of crashes Saturday near Dover and Eyota.

Mina Haslerud, 37, of St. Charles, died Monday from injuries suffered in a crash at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at Olmsted County Road 9 and Olmsted County Road 10. She was airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester after the crash.

Haslerud was riding in a vehicle driven by Steven Orris, 32, of St. Charles, said Sgt. Steve Kazeck, of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office. Orris died Saturday after being airlifted to Saint Marys Hospital.

William Eckles, 58, of St. Charles, the driver of the other vehicle, was transported by ambulance to Saint Marys Hospital, where he was treated and released. A passenger in the Eckles vehicle, Jacalyn McCormick, 56, of St. Charles, was listed in fair condition at Saint Marys Hospital on Sunday.

Three people had to be extricated from the vehicles, which came to rest in a field on the northwest side of the intersection, Kazeck said. Preliminary results of an investigation indicate that one of the drivers went through the stop sign at the two-way stop, Kazeck said.

The other crash happened at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday north of Eyota on U.S. 14 at Minnesota Highway 42, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report. The intersection has been the site of a number of fatal crashes in recent years.

Marvin Jech, 66, of Rochester, was killed in the crash. The three people in the other vehicle -- driver Joseph Maxwell, 31, and passengers Leslie Osweiler, 30, and Cynthia Maxwell, 52, all of Williamsburg, Iowa -- had no apparent injuries.

Jech was northbound on Minnesota 42, and Maxwell was eastbound on U.S. 14.
