Meridith A. Haslerud, 64, Roseau, died of cancer Monday, Dec. 21, 1987, in Roseau Area Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Messiah Lutheran Church, Roseau. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Helgeson Funeral Home, Roseau, and an hour before services in the church. A Masonic service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Meridith A. Haslerud was born April 24, 1923, in Peterson, Minn., the son of Oliver and Hazel Haslerud. He attended school there and later moved to Baltimore to work in a war plant. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to Rushford, Minn., where he worked for Rural Electric Cooperative, and in 1947, to Finley, N.D. He worked as a line superintendent there until 1955, when he became manager of Roseau Rural Electric Cooperative. He also was director of the Cooperative Finance Corporation Board in Washington, D.C., and served on the Roseau Fair Board. He married Norma Glenna Nov. 18, 1945, in Rushford.

She survives along with sons, Steven, Roseau, Thomas, Hettinger, N.D.; and daughter, Mary Haslerud, East Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

The original general manager was August Bourque, who served in that capacity until his death in 1955. He was succeeded by Meridith Haslerud whose 32 year career was highlighted by securing a $250,000 loan for Marvin Window after their fire in 1961, and his efforts that provided central station power to the Northwest Angle in the fall of 1973. Mr. Haslerud died in December, 1987.
