Bertha L. Olness, 85, of Rushford, died Sunday (June 18, 2000) at her home.
She was born on June 29, 1914, in Rushford Village to Cornelius and Jacobina (Tostenson) Woxland.
She was raised in the Rushford area and attended the Anderson County School through the eighth grade. She lived most of her life in the Rushford and Peterson areas.
She married Joseph M. Olness on July 6, 1932, in Rushford. Mrs. Olness worked at Overby's Grocery Store, Tri-County Electric, did tailoring work, was a cook at Rushford School for 15 years, cook at Wee World Day Care, and was resident grandma at Country Care Child Care, all in Rushford.
She was a member of the Rushford Lutheran Church and the WELCA. Her favorite pastimes were going out for dinner and making quilts for her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by one son: Carol (Doris A.) Olness of Henderson, Tenn.; three daughters, Beverly (Donald L.) Olson of Peterson, Jean (David) Way of Jefferson, Iowa, and Barbara (George) Hovland of Rushford; 28 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine (Edward) Peterson of Rushford; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter, three great-granddaughters, four brothers, and three sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be today, 2 p.m., at Rushford Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Knudson officiating. Burial will be in the East Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Peterson.
The family prefers memorials to the Rushford Lutheran Church or to grace Lutheran Church in Peterson.
