Born March 24, 1840 at Nummedal, Norway. Come to the United States in 1850.

Died October 8, 1921, Interred at Rushford Lutheran Cemetery.

Service - Pvt., Co. D, Captain C.L. Post's Comany of Fillmore County Volunteer Mounted Infantry serving from September 1st, 1862 to October 6, 1862 in the Indian Uprising. On November 6, he enlisted in the 1st Minnesota Mounted Rangers being discharged December 2nd, 1863. On October 12, 1864 he again enlisted and was discharged September 27, 1865.


O.E. Laugen came to Rushford in 1861 and after completion of militarty duty married Hansine Hostvedt of Rushford. They lived in Rock County Wisconsin for 11 years before retruning to Rushford where they raised their ten children.

O.E. Laugen engaged in the manufacture of wagons when he returned to Rushford, and was a member of the original Rushford Wagon Company, formed in 1872 by the merger of two independent companies. The meber of the merged firm were: O.E. Laugen, O.J. Hopperstad and Philip and Peter Miller. This partnership was dissolved in 1886 with the Miller brothers continuing the business.
