• Obituary, 1991, Mower County, MN. Mabel A. Bakken, 91, of Route 3, Rochester, a longtime area farm homemaker, died Sunday at St. Marys Hospital.

Born Mabel A. Haarstad on Nov. 11, 1899, in rural Dexter, she grew up there. On June 21, 1922, she married Alfred Bakken in Dexter. They lived in Kasson for a time before moving to rural Rochester in 1949. Her husband died in March 1976. Mrs. Bakken was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include four sons, David and Allwyn, both of Rochester, Donald of Cannon Falls and A. Everett of Wykoff; six daughters, Arlida (Mrs. James) Long and Billie (Mrs. Jack) Croll, both of Zamora, Calif., Evangeline (Mrs. William) Cannell of Virginia, Dorothy (Mrs. Donald) Morgan of Morristown, Minn.; Elvira Bakken of McQueeny, Texas, and Ruth (Mrs. Clifford) Boyum of St. Paul; 35 grandchildren; 46 greatgrandchildren; a brother, Otto Haarstad of Dexter; and two sisters, Mrs. Olga Tebay of Le Roy and Thelma (Mrs. Elmer) Kirchner of Hayfield. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, two sisters and a granddaughter.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jack Friedli officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Dexter.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ranfranz Funeral Home and an hour before the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Bethel Lutheran Church missions.



Mabel married Alfred BAKKEN, son of Knud Knudsen BAKKEN and Magdeli Hansdatter BOYUM, on 22 Jun 1922 in Dexter, Mower County, MN. (Alfred BAKKEN was born on 15 Oct 1895 in MN and died on 15 Mar 1976 in Olmsted County, MN 2.)
