John Beals (ca. 1650-1726) immigrated from England in 1675 with the John Fenwick Company on the ship "Griffin". Tradition states that John Beals was a surveyor who helped William Penn lay out Philadelphia. He married Mary Clayton in 1682 in Chester Meeting, Pennsylvania. Descendants lived primarily in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Virginia. Includes Mills, Bond, Hiatt, Hunt, Hodson, Canaday and other related families.
