Record of Wills, Book A 1800-1825 Onslow County, North Carolina In the name of God, Amen: I William Gibson Senior of Onslow County & State of North Carolina, being in perfect health, thanks to God, but calling to mind the mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in following manner and form, viz.: in the first place, it is my desire that all my just debts & other of my necessary expenses be satisfied and paid. ITEM: I will unto my beloved son Daniel Gibson a certain tract or parcel of land lying on the south side of White Oak River, beginning at a cypress at the mouth of the north prong of said river, then running a straight line to the mouth of Bull Branch and then up the south branch to a water oak, then running with a line of marked trees, the dividing line between and by said son Daniel and my son John to a line of my own about fifty yards above the Horse Head Branch to a lightwood stake in the said line, which said line belongs to a survey of a patent bearing date the 20th of December 1791 & then running with that line to John Barber's line & with John Barber's line to the said Daniel Gibson line, all which said land I will and bequeath unto my said son Daniel Gibson , to him and his heirs forever. ITEM: I will unto my beloved son John Gibson a certain tract or parcel of land lying on the south side of said White Oak River, beginning at the said river where the road joins the edge of the river at a water oak, then running with the road to a post oak near the head of the land, then running with a line of marked trees to my son William Gibson's line, all which said land I will and bequeath unto said beloved son John Gibson, to him and his heirs forever, but if he should die without heirs, I will the same land to my beloved son Levi Gibson, to him and his heirs forever. ITEM: I will unto my beloved son Levi Gibson a certain tract or parcel of land beginning at the said water oak where my said son John Gibson's land begins & then running with the river to the mouth of Gibson's branch, then running with the said branch the various courses of the said branch to the said William Gibson's line. Item: I will unto said beloved son William Gibson a certain tract or parcel of land beginning at a black gum in the edge of the run of the said Gibson branch, then running with a line of marked trees to the said line which the said Daniel Gibson's lightwood stake corner stands in to a drean (drain) that leads to Nanny Fawns pond, then to a red oak corner near the said pond, then running with a line of marked trees that divides my said son William's boxes and mine, thence into the laurel to a laurel corner, thence running with a line of a deed that I had of my brother Isaac to a pine near the edge of a prong of Gibson's branch, then running with the said prong to the said Gibson's branch to a gum, thence with the run of the said Gibson's branch to the beginning. I also will unto my said son William Gibson a piece of land estimated about fifteen acres, lying on the south side of the said Gibson branch, it being part of a tract of land containing 500 acres which I patented, reference to the said patent it will fully appear where the said fifteen acres lies, all which said lands I will & bequeath to my said son William Gibson, to him & his heirs forever. ITEM: It is my will also that the remainder of my tract of land not already willed to be equally divided among my three aforesaid sons, to wit; Daniel, John & Levi, to them & their heirs forever. ITEM: I will unto my beloved daughter Cassandra Tallman a certain tract or parcel of land lying on the south side of Starkey's Creek, lying & adjoining Elisha Eubanks lands, above said Eubanks land reference to the patent, it will more fully appear all which said tract of land I will & bequeath unto my said beloved daughter Cassandra Tallman, to her & her heirs forever. ITEM: I will unto my daughter in law Anna Gibson, my son Isaac's widow, half a dollar in full with what I have already given her. ITEM: I will unto my beloved wife Mary Anne Gibson two mares and their increase during her natural life, also two beds & furniture, also one cow & calf, also my riding saddle & bridle. It is my will also that my said beloved wife has the use of my lands and plantation during her natural life, without the lett or molestation of any person or persons whatsoever. I also will unto my said beloved wife all my stock of bees that I die possessed of. I also leave two yoke of oxen for the use of the plantation. I also leave one yoke of oxen to be sold toward the payment of my debts. I also will unto my said beloved wife all my stock of hogs that I die possessed of. It is my will also that my Negro man Stephen be hired out & the money reserved for the use of my wife & my two youngest sons, to wit; John & Levi, towards their education. ITEM: I also will unto my said youngest sons John & Levi one plow & one flook apiece. I also will that all my plantation tools & my handmill be for the use of the plantation. I will also that my carpenter & joiners tools shall be equally divided among my aforesaid sons Daniel, William & John & Levi. I also will unto my son John all my turners tools. I also will that my grindstone be for the use of the plantation. ITEM: I also will unto my said son John one rifle & one London gun. I also will unto beloved son James Gibson one dollar in full with what I have already given him & I do nominate constitute & appoint my aforesaid three beloved sons, to wit; Daniel Gibson, John Gibson & Levi Gibson, Executors to this my last will and testament & revoking all other my former will or wills & bequests by me before made, do ratify & confirm this to be my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 3rd day of August 1814.
