I've just been playing in the Knott County online censuses (1900 & 1910).
In 1900,
Martha (who was married to Preston Caudill), is living with her son, Thomas Caudill & his family. Lucy (spelled Lucey) Casebolt is listed as Thomas' sister. Lucy's future 1st husband lives a couple of homes down. Hillard Gibson (spelled incorrectly) is living with his father: Burdine, mother: Mahala, and sisters: Elvira & Maudie.
In 1910, Martha and Lucy dissappear. Hillard is living with Burdine (spelled Bird) and Mahala. It says he is married for 1 year. Thomas Caudill is still listed with his wife and children, no mother or sister in household. No Lucy Gibson or Lucy Casebolt in Knott county. No Martha Caudill nor Casebolt (of her age) in the county.
My grandfather, Ellis Gibson, was born Apr 7 1910.
Family legend is Hillard "kidnapped" Lucy, they had one child together and she was "able to get away." I don't know how much truth is behind the kidnapping and if they were even married. I do know that they only had one child. Maybe she and her mother ranaway together to have Ellis in a different county.
Lucy went on to marry John P Kitchen. They had four children together: John, Sam, Martha & Virginia.
I remember Grandma Lucy Kitchen as a child (she died when I was 11). She was tall...close to six foot or better.
I have no knowledge of Andy Casebolt & Martha marrying. Lucy apparently got his name. I was told Andy was the father by a woman who knew Lucy.
I have more info on Preston Caudill if you so desire.
