• Obituary: Barkdull Funeral Home, 2011, Shelby, Richland County, OH. Herbert D. Tullis, 80, of Fort Myers, Florida passed away Monday, January 3, 2011 in Fort Myers. Born January 30, 1930 in Shelby, Ohio to Chauncey M. and Beatrice E. (Blosser) Tullis Herb resided in Shelby during his early years, moving to Florida in June of 2001. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1947 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Miami University. Herb served in the U.S. Army in the audit agency. He was employed as Vice President and Controller with the Champion International Corporation in Hamilton, Ohio and Stamford, Connecticut, retiring in 1984. Mr. Tullis was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Fort Myers, Florida. He served as treasurer and board member of the Parker Lakes home owners association and the Crystal Cove Condominium Association. Herb enjoyed playing cards and had achieved the level of Silver Life Master Bridge Player. Survivors include his wife, Patricia S. Tullis of Fort Myers; his sister, Ruth E. Pittenger of Shelby, Ohio; his son Mark A. Tullis and daughter-in-law Bettie L. Tullis of Toronto, Canada; his son Scott E. Tullis and daughter-in-law Cheryl S. Tullis of Hamilton, Ohio; four grandchildren, John, Sarah, Amanda and Claire Tullis; sixteen step-grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn R. (Glower) Tullis in 1988; a brother, Robert E. Tullis and two brothers in law, Reed Schreck and Russell Pittenger. Memorial services will be held 10:00AM Tuesday January 11, 2011 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Father Nicholas Cunningham of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial mass was held on Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Fort Myers, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Class of 1947 Trust.
