NOTE: Processioning of land was a community undertaking required by law. Landowners were grouped into precincts; those in each precinct got together by appointment to walk their property lines, recutting fading blazes and marking new trees by mutual agreement to replace any that had fallen. Vestry book entries dated 1711, 1715, and 1715 suggest that this reestablishment of property lines took place at four year intervals. In 1715 Thomas Gibson did not come, but sent Humphrey to procession in his stead. A Humphrey was Thomas' son in law [?], the husband of the daughter named in his will, Frances Humphrey. Based on the date, Lewis Duke HUMPHREY was probably his father and a neighbor.
